Carmona was previously a settlement named Latag, which was annexed on the city of Silang upon the latter's creation in 1595. The origins of its identify are unidentified. In 1856, the settlement's inhabitants demanded the conversion of Latag into a town, spearheaded by Tiburcio Purificacion.
